Today, Tuesday, February 24 at 5:00 PM, community members will gather at the Ohio County Public Library for the Walk of 200 Souls, a remembrance walk honoring individuals buried in more than 200 unmarked graves within the Rising Sun community.

The event is connected to an ongoing effort by the Ohio County Historical Society to research and identify graves believed to belong to African Americans from the Underground Railroad era. Many of those buried were never properly recorded, leaving their stories largely untold.

Community members will walk together from the library to Union and Cedar Hedge Cemeteries, honoring lives and stories that helped shape Rising Sun’s early history.

All are welcome to attend and take part in this meaningful moment of reflection and local remembrance. Events like the Walk of the 200 Souls remind us that the stories of a town live on through remembrance and community.
