Hello Rising Sun,

Summer always seems to fly by, and this week is one of those weeks where life gets especially busy. So instead of a longer issue, we're keeping things simple and focusing on what matters most—helping you discover what's happening around our community.

Whether you're in the mood for live music on Main Street, supporting our local volunteer firefighters at the Bear Branch Ice Cream Social, or spending an evening with friends at one of our community events, there's something for everyone this week.

The Gathering at the Fairgrounds
The Gathering returns to the Schroeder Community Building from 5:30–9:00 PM. The evening includes a free meal, fellowship, worship, and a message from guest speaker Ethan Rolph of Glencoe Church of Christ. All are welcome.

Live Music at King’s Landing
Catch Cat Campbell & the $2 Pistols playing live starting at 8:00 PM Cat Campbell & the $2 Pistols live at King’s Landing.

Bear Branch Volunteer Fire Department Ice Cream Social
Head to the Bear Branch Fire Hall in Dillsboro on Saturday, July 25, beginning at 4:00 PM for the annual Ice Cream Social. Enjoy eight flavors of homemade ice cream, Sloppy Joes, hot dogs, homemade desserts, iced tea, and lemonade. This freewill donation event helps support the department's volunteer firefighters. Guests are welcome to bring containers or coolers to take extra ice cream home. DJ Adkins at Rising Star Casino Pavilion
Enjoy live country music from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Rising Star Casino Pavilion. DJ Adkins performs a mix of traditional country favorites and modern hits. Guests in the Pavilion must be 21 or older.

King's Landing – The Lindsey Lane Band
Keep the music going Saturday night with The Lindsey Lane Band performing live at King's Landing beginning at 8:00 PM.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 97th Detmer Family Reunion

The 97th Detmer Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, July 26, from 12:30–4:00 PM at the Ohio County Senior Citizen & Community Center (510 S. Mulberry St., Rising Sun).

The afternoon includes a potluck lunch and a presentation by Cliff Thies. Attendees are encouraged to bring family photos and information about their ancestors and relatives.

💰 Ohio County Community Foundation Annual Celebration Grant

The Ohio County Community Foundation is accepting applications for its 2026 Annual Celebration Grant. One competitive grant of $10,028 will be awarded to a nonprofit organization serving Ohio County.

🎓 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Applications Now Available
The Ohio County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2027 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. Eligible Rising Sun High School seniors planning to attend an Indiana college or university should be sure to apply by Friday, August 14, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. See the announcement below for eligibility requirements and application details.
