🏡 Welcome to Issue #20 of the Rising Sun Newsletter!

This week we're celebrating our community's 4-H exhibitors while looking ahead to the Stars & Stripes Celebration on July 4. You'll also find City Council and library updates to help you stay connected with what's happening around town.

🐾 4-H Exhibitors Shine at the Pet Show

The Pet Show at the Ohio County 4-H Fair gave young animal enthusiasts the opportunity to proudly share their pets and learn from the judge. For first-time exhibitors, the event offered hands-on guidance and encouragement, making it a positive experience for everyone involved.

Adalynn and Nuisance

One of those first-time exhibitors was Adalynn, who proudly showed her dog, Nuisance. The judge took time to offer helpful guidance and encouragement throughout the class, giving Adalynn a positive first show experience and building confidence for future competitions.

The event also introduced visitors to some unique furry friends. Calvin introduced fairgoers to his Sphynx cat, Rip Van Winkle, and his pet prairie dog, Wyatt Earp. Both drew smiles from visitors, especially Wyatt Earp, who isn't an animal you see every day at the county fair!

Calvin's family also shared the story behind Rip Van Winkle. After discovering that Calvin's father had severe cat allergies, they searched for a Sphynx cat. Since bringing Rip Van Winkle home, his father has been able to enjoy having a cat without the allergy problems they had experienced before.

The Pet Show highlighted what 4-H is all about—giving young people the opportunity to learn, grow, gain confidence, and proudly share the animals they love.
