🏡 Welcome to Issue #34 of the Rising Sun Newsletter
Hey everyone!
October is off to a busy start in Rising Sun! This week, local Scouts rolled up their sleeves for the Ohio River Sweep at Arnolds Creek, and there are plenty of fall events coming up around town.
🌊 Scouts Pitch In for the Ohio River Sweep
A dozen volunteers gathered at Arnolds Creek Monday evening for an ORSANCO River Sweep cleanup.
I stopped by Arnolds Creek to lend a hand and catch up with the Scouts during the cleanup.
Members of Troop 605, for Scouts in grades 6–12, and Pack 650, for Scouts in grades 1–5, helped collect multiple bags of trash, a large tractor tire, two other tires and a large plastic item.
The Scouts also had a little excitement when they came across several deer bones, including a skull, jawbone and femur.
The local cleanup has been going on for about 10 years, and Teresa Valentine now helps organize the effort. Over the years, volunteers have found some pretty unusual things. One of the most memorable was a truck door believed to be from the 1950s.
The cleanup is part of ORSANCO’s Ohio River Sweep program, which helps organize volunteer cleanups along the Ohio River and surrounding waterways.
A big thank-you to Troop 605, Pack 650 and all of the volunteers who gave their time to help clean up Arnolds Creek.
📅 Next River Cleanup — Volunteers Needed
The next cleanup will be held Saturday, October 24, from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM.
Volunteers will meet at the shelter by the playground and boat ramp on Front Street at the Rising Sun Riverfront.
For more information, call 513-703-9129.
Come lend a hand and help keep our riverfront clean!
🎃 Local Fall Find: Zack’s Pumpkins
If you’re looking for pumpkins this fall, don’t forget about Zack’s Pumpkins, located at 4217 Pleasant Ridge Road in Rising Sun.
Zack has been selling pumpkins for several years, using the money he earns to help pay for college. It’s a great chance to pick up a pumpkin for the porch or Halloween while supporting a young local entrepreneur.
